What is the velocity with which the bow recoils?

The arrow from a bow has a mass of 0.5 kg. When the bow is fired, the arrow leaves the bow with a velocity of 350 m/s. If the mass of the bow is 15kg, what is the velocity with which the bow recoils?

Use this equation:

m1v1+m2v2+m1v1+m2v2 Conservation of momentum

    Conservation of momentum means arrow momentum is equal and opposite to the bow momentum.

    Arrow momentum = 0.5*350 kg-m/s

    Bow momentum = 15*v kg-m/s

    v = 0.5*350/15 = 11.7 m/s opposite to arrow velocity
