Are Tara or Jessica in any of the Sookie Stackhouse books?

I've read the first book in the series, and I've watched most of the first season of True Blood. It seems that each episode of the series matches with each chapter of the book (being that there are 12 chapters and 12 episodes). However, I haven't read of a Tara Thornton or a Jessica Hamby yet. Are they in the series at all, or have they been created for the show?

Tara is in the Charlaine Harris books, but she is white and has a very different personality. Jessica does not appear in the books at all. Also, Lafayette is killed in the first book and never reappears so Jessica, Lafayette & the cool African-American Tara are only a part of the True Blood TV series.

I found the first two seasons of True Blood to loosely follow the first two books, but the meanad MaryAnne storyline didn't play as big of a role in the books as it did in the television series.

I wish I had read the books first, but I always feel that way. I have now read the first eight books of the series, so I'm looking forward to watching how they are handled in True Blood.

Tara is white and later on has a store and is not a real main character. Lafayette dies in the first chapter of the second book because people at a sex party murdered him for trying to call the authorities for beating on him, which they ended up accidentally paying tribute to Calliisto the maenad who did have a significant role in the books too but had a very different character and only a few pages. Oh Jessica Hamby is not and never was Billl's progeny in the books. The Books are completely different than the show. Pam is even one of Sokkie's only real vampire firend. Congrats you didn't get spoiled but you're up to date. I'm sorry I was pissed off when people refused to explain the books to me and stayed vague. That's BS. Tell someone what they are getting into, because show fans get angry when they are with-held. Some might not to read the books. (I did and well did and loved it equally because they are very different yet a little bit the same in some ways)

I have always adored to read. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't also enjoy TV. Throughout the day this can be a reserve usually.

Television set is produced to the lowest common denominator - i.e., the average IQ of everyone, whereas a written book is written to the best common denominator

I have only read the books, but I read them awhile ago and really fast, so I forgot some characters.

In the book there is Tara, but I am not quite sure about Jessica. But in the books, Tara is supposed to be white. I am not being racist, I am just saying so your not confused. Tara is very different from the book than the show, from what I heard.

    Hope this helps :)
