Who pays for our Universities?
I keep hearing from folks things like " I woulkd appreciate if you live and pay taxes in our state for several years before taking advantage of our Colleges."
Isn't that total BS? However, I can't find statistics on how much the federal government actually pays for the Colleges and Universities. I'm pretty sure the dtates do not pay 100% and get some kind of help from the federal government.
What are you talking about? We pay 100% ourselves? I don't think so. They do get money from the state or whoever for every student.
I used to thing the difference betweent in-state and out-state tuition is what the state . Let's say in-state is 8k a year and out-state 13k. That's usually how much they charge you in Tx.

There are several sources for the state universities receive funds to operate. One source is funds is the tuition they get because they function as providers of higher education for their citizens and for others from around the world. It may be noticed that students who come from other states, or other nations pay a tuition rate that is double and sometimes triple what in-state students have to pay.
They also may receive some funds in the form of tuition based on the students they have enrolled in special programs. Those funds come from the federal government. Then a third source of funding is from federal grants that ihe universities also receive from the federal government for research and teaching for certain programs. A fourth source is the tuition it receives from in-state students who enroll in its programs. Then, there is a fifth source that is contributions from it alumni or alumnae who have graduated. Finally, a sixth source of funding for state universities is from private foundations that provide funding for special interests. The Carnegie Foundation, the labor unions with special funds, professional foundations representing high education and many more.
Something important to note is that those outside from from the federal government amount to no more than 6-7% of the funds needed by the universities to continue offering higher education to all qualified students.

nicely for starters, I agree, that we don't pay our squaddies sufficient, and if we paid them sufficient, greater of them might greater desirable than in all probability stay interior the militia.this way we'd safeguard a nicely experienced tension. yet, an great majority of human beings does not be responsive to something approximately our militia. maximum ericans think of that as quickly as united states of america has to go its troops, the marines are the 1st to go. it fairly is faulty. the only reason we nevertheless have the marines, is they have been our first maritime tension and now, there's no ought to have a marine tension. in spite of the undeniable fact that, they're the only ones who preserve our embassy's and the army want somebody to bathe them deck, yet on the different hand, the are sturdy squaddies. All squaddies retired or retiring, might desire to obtain 2 flags, U.S. flag and a flag from the state of which he/she is from, with letters of appreciation from their governors

I don't see how that is BS...You as a student only pay a small percent of the total tuition and the state has a very large portion. So how is it unfair that the state would collect taxes from you for a few years before it makes things significantly cheaper for you to go to a state school? It's simple, if you want the benefits of in-state tuition then you should have to pay taxes for a couple years just like everyone else.

Canada's gov't pays diddly squat for Canadian students, that's why our tuition is always rising.

The state does, our taxes go to the state which gives them to the public universities. As a result, in state residents have to pay less for tuition (a lot less) than out of state residents. That is why I always tell people, if you are going out of state, pick a Private University.

In the US, state universities are funded by state tax dollars and tuition (but tax dollars cover a lot more than tuition does). Private schools are funded by tuition (and from their endowments and donations) so they have to charge more in tuition. I'm not sure if it's 100% state taxes or not, but it's a very high percentage, definitely high enough to justify out of state tuition, especially since not everyone pays the same amount for schools (residents in WY pay much less for state schools than residents in CA).

You would pay mostly for your own or your parents pay for you, unless you get a scholarship from the school you are applying to then they would give you money to go to that school, there are other ways to get scholarships such as bowling, science fairs, hobbies etc. But if you dont have any of that i think you mostly have to pay for it yourself
