Can you join the Air Force if you do ROTC in college?

I'm kind of confused about ROTC.

I want to go to Wake Forest University and then join the Air Force. My dad did ROTC at Wake Forest and joined the Army. Can you do ROTC and then join the Air Force?? Sorry if it sounds dumb, but I really have no idea...

Also, would the military pay for my college (if yes, how much?)

Thanks everyone

A storefront recruiter won't know anything about AFROTC. Start by using the AFROTC website for basic information. Here is their website. http://afrotc.com/

Wake Forest does not have their own AFROTC program but they are a "cross-town affiliate" of North Carolina A&T. That means you can go to WF but would have to travel to NCAT to train with AFROTC Detachment 605. http://www.ncat.edu/~afrotc/

The AFROTC college locator is here: http://afrotc.com/college-life/college-locator/ There is a link that can show you an email address at ncat to establish contact.

Whether or not they pay for your college depends on you winning an AFROTC scholarship.

    First two answerers are morons

If you want to join the AIR FORCE, oh I don't know, maybe you should join AIR FORCE ROTC

If you want to be an Officer and can't figure out how to google AF ROTC from here and find your answers from that, well, you'd never get in anyway.

Afrotc, Nrotc, Nrotc Mo and Rotc all have a "scholarship program" which offers four year scholarships to high school students, and a "college program" that students can join while in college. The "college" program also offers scholarships that students can apply for.

Afrotc is a commissioning program for Air Force Lieutenants. The overwhelming majority of "scholarship progam" scholarships are awarded to engineering, science and math majors. An Afrotc scholarship in 95% of cases is capped at $17,000 or less for tuition. The "scholarship program" scholarships that are not capped and pay full tuition are awarded in the areas of computer engineering, electrical engineering and environmental engineering.

    http://afrotc.com/help-center/faqs/scholarships/#q...

Afrotc "college program" scholarships are awarded in a wider variety of majors. As indicated in another answer, Afrotc is available to Wake Forest students through cross town school arrangements, at a near by historically black college/university, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University.

There is a good description of Afrotc available on this detachment's website:

    http://airforcerotc.berkeley.edu/_afrotc-program.h...

Air Force TDSP is available for students working on an Engineering or Meteorological degree and within two years of graduation. TDSP is not an Afrotc program.

[Click on "Money for School" and scroll to the bottom of the web page.]

Nrotc is a commissioning program for Navy Ensigns. The overwhelming majority of "scholarship progam" scholarships are awarded to engineering, science and math majors. An Nrotc scholarship pays full tuition. Nrotc "college program" scholarships are awarded in a wider variety of majors.

Nrotc Mo(Marine Option) is a commissioning program for Marine Lieutenants. An Nrotc mo scholarship pays full tuition. Nrotc Mo scholarships are awarded in a wide variety of majors.

Rotc is a commissioning program for Army Lieutenants. An Rotc scholarship pays full tuition.

Rotc scholarships are awarded in a wide variety of majors.

Since Wake Forest's tuition is over $38,000 per year, an Afrotc scholarship would only partially cover it unless awarded a Type I scholarship in computer engineering, electrical engineering or environmental engineering.

Certain colleges offers scholarships from their own funds to partially or fully pay the room and board of scholarship cadets/mids.

    http://www.afrotc.com/scholarships/high-school/sub...

Wake Forest is not on the list but that doesn't definitively mean that nothing additional will be offered. Many private universities only charge the full tuition rate to students whose parents are fairly high income. Other students are essentially offered tuition rebates. For instance this is how tuition breaks down according to family income at Yale. This may be a little misleading because Yale has more to distribute than almost all other colleges, but the idea is the same regardless of the absolute amount of the distribution.

    http://www.yale.edu/admit/freshmen/financial_aid/y...

[Scroll to the table at the bottom of the above web page.]

Wake Forest guarantees to meet any identified financial need but they don't specify the breakdown between grant based aid and self help aid(loans and work study) for varying levels of need. With an Afrotc scholarship, the loan component would likely not be that onerous if there were identified financial need.

    Good Luck!
