Should I take my cat to the vet now?

My 12-year-old cat was fine yesterday until she went outside. When she came in, she was walking with a slight limp in her back right leg. She's still walking stiffly and unsteadily today and hasn't improved. A couple of times she's actually fallen over, and once she nearly fell right off my bed. She is still able to jump and move around but has been particularly sedentary today.

She doesn't seem to be in any pain. I know that cats tend to be very stoic about pain, but even when I felt her leg, foot, and hip she didn't so much as flinch. This makes me think that the injury is minor. She does seem to be in some discomfort, though - right now she's sitting awkwardly and keeping her weight on her good side.

Aside from being even less active than usual, her behavior hasn't changed. She isn't acting irritable, she's using her litter box and washing herself, and her appetite is normal. The only odd thing is that last night she threw up - totally out of the blue; she hadn't been eating right before or anything.

Right now I'm leaning toward taking her to the vet tomorrow if she still hasn't improved at all. What do you guys think? Should I take her this evening instead? Should I wait a few days? And does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

    Its very possible she just pulled a muscle. if you have moved and felt of her leg, hip and foot and she didn't pull back or act in pain, i would say she will be fine a few days. if she's not I would take her. But I wouldn't rush her. She's older, and she will let you know when it's time, if it comes up.

    Hi, Hate to tell you this but," really you answered your own question, by saying I'M LEANING TOWARD TAKING HER TO THE VET TOMORROW. NOW FROM ME, ;;;;;;;;

    Why the hech do you people let your cats out?? this world is nuts enough without our animals being let out in it alone.... WOULD YOU LET YOUR CHILDREN OUT THERE ALONE?? Think of your cat as part of your family and "TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND KEEP HER IN THE HOUSE"

    My cat done the exact same thing...and we later found out she had a stroke. She had the limp, and then she started acting like she was dizzy. Look at her eyes, now and keep a check on them over the next few days. My girls eyes .....you could tell she was dizzy, he eyes were like scanning the room even when you were sitting dead in front of her. please keep a close watch on her. I waited too long for my kitty and now her head hangs to the side all the time and she seems "lost" all the time. Her hearing is now off...you can stand across from her and holler for her and it takes her a few minutes to find you. Just keep a close eye on her...oh, can she still drink water? I remember my cat wouldn't eat or drink water for like a day. Put her favorite treat or snack in front of her, if she refuses it, and seems dizzzy, I would bet she is leaning towards a stroke! Keep us updated and let us know!!! Good luck, but I think you really need to keep the vet on a quick stand-by because I really think you are going to need him.........just one more thing....is there ANY chance at all she could have gotten into any poisoning? If there is ANY chance at all, warm her up a cup of milk. Milk helps to absorb poisons. A single tiny dose of syrup of Ipecac will help too IF there a chance of poisoning, but becareful with that!!!!! Best of luck!

    If she's eating and urinating/defecating, getting around ok, I think it's probably ok to rest her tonight and take her to the vet tomorrow. It wouldn't be wrong to take her tonight, but it doesn't sound like a true emergency. She could have a dislocation or she could have a wound/abscess in the leg. Try to keep her confined so that she cannot further injure herself tonight until you know what is going on. Good luck!

    Just to be on the safe side, I would take her to the vet. Was this the first time you let her out? If it was, you shouldnt really do that. At an age like that, she is not used to the outdoors. If she is declawed that could be even worse. Good luck and I hope she feels better!
