I was rejected by my first choice college. Should I appeal?

I applied to Cornell University early decision. According to the school, you can either be accepted, rejected, or deferred (basically moved to the regular decision pool). I was rejected and the college said that I would not be reviewed for the regular decisions. Should I even bother appealing? If so, how do I go about doing this.

Well, I don't know anything about your academic record, but Cornell is a tough school to get into. If you are deferred that means you have a chance of getting in, but no guarantee. If they wanted you at all, they would have deferred you. Find another school that is well suited to you and apply there... and make sure you have backup schools.

Waste of time, suck it up, be a man and take the blow and move on. Appealing would only piss them off and I'm sure they would take their sweet time getting back to you as you are just a applicant number and an application fee to them.

They could've deferred/waitlisted you if they were unsure. A rejection is pretty sure. I don't see how you're going to appeal what boils down to their own assessment of you. You can disagree with them on whether you're Cornell material, but you can't force them to accept you, unless you believe this is discriminatory and based on your race/gender/etc, which I really doubt. There are not laws or rules that govern their decisions for you to appeal.

Don't bother appealing. You failed to meet the admission criteria. Had you border lined, they would have put you into the deferred pool. You could ask where you failed to meet the admission criteria and they might tell you.

Don't bother. Admissions decisions are not subject to appeal. Go to another school.
