The summer job idea sounds great. Save every penny you can for a car. But if you can't get a job, please don't give up on college.

Junior Colleges are usually fairly close to home, and a bicycle might be enough. I biked for 4 years in college, and it worked out. If it snows where you are, you might still be able to carpool with friends or family in the winter.

Another choice, in the event of a snowy climate, is to wait until second semester to register. A JC should let you do that. In the meantime, you have more time to earn money, and if that still isn't enough, you can still bike in the spring, and really have until the next winter to earn your car.

If you work during the summer you will be able to save enough (approx. 3k by working full time) to purchase an old car. However, you can still start looking for work now and begin as soon as possible. In the past, i have worked throughout my senior year and it was okay as long as you are capable of managing your time. In Canada, there's many used and affordable cars (1995 models etc) just for 2 thousand.

Definitely get a summer job or a semester job if you handle that and schoolwork. Also, get a used car and make sure you do your research - There's a lot of people who would want to rip you off.

I'm not sure about your whole situation but I go to a college 3 hours away from my house and I don't have a car. I usually get rides from friends. So only get a car if it is really essential.

Get a summer job. Save all the money you get and you might be able to afford a jalopy. But if you have someone move you in you can get around some college towns without a car.
