it's about someone's relative who was using her as a tax write off/tax refund, was doing an illegal something?
When someone's relative has used them as tax write off/ tax refund had only been giving said person less than $300.00 to (only pay some of the rent) and then this relative of said person completely and rudely disowned cut her relative and stopped sending her any payments at all, has that person who making a lot of money off her tax write-off relative, been doing anything illegal and if so what can be done for the said person whom is on too low of an income to support themself about the situation, like a law suit?
Will look forward to hear any suggestion any of you out there in the yahoo community would have on aforementioned subject.
happy New Year to all!

Was "said person" living with the relative who claimed them for the entire year? Did "said person" earn less than $3650 during the year?
Then the person who claimed them was probably doing so legally. They weren't obligated to pay your friend any of that money.
If your friend was supporting herself, and the relative did NOT pay more than half of her support, then the relative MAY have committed tax fraud. In that case, your friend could report her to the IRS.
It also makes a difference what type of relative we're talking about here. Parent/child? Sibling?

If someone claims a dependent they aren't entitled legally to claim, yes that's illegal.
If they meet the rules to claim the person legally, they don't have to pay them anything.
