Do you prefer camping, going to remote resorts, or hoteling it?

I still enjoy roughing it. Hotels are ok if you are going to Disneyland or Universal City in Hollywood butfor relaxation, peace and quiet I love the outdoors. One of my favorite is along the TexasGulf Coast on Padre Island National Seashore. It is a 63 mile long stretch of beach outside Corpus Christi and is totally primitive camping. No running water, stores or electrical hookups. What you bring is what you have. Nothing like camping under the stars during a full moon. You see things uncluttered by city lights. It's fabulous.

There is nothing like putting everything on your back and going in to a remote area and setting up. In remote areas of Montana or Alaska is the best places for this. Good knowledge of the area is needed. A good compass (and a backup) with maps.. Necessary weapons for protection and for food.. You'll find more out about yourself than anything else you can do.

But, I always make sure that when I went like this in the past it was with a BUDDY that was as equally qualified at survival that I was. If you go alone and get seriously hurt - it can and usually is a death sentence without a Sat phone. But when I was remote camping there was no such thing!

Going to a hotel or resort.. thats just a vacation...anyone can do that. You have to take life by the horns and drag it to the ground grunting and groaning. If you just do enough to get by you will miss things you could never dream of and things that you will remember the rest of your life.

It all depends where I am going in the world. I wouldn't go to a remote resorts in an unfriendly country like Israel. Nothing against any religion but the situation is unsettling and I won't enjoy myself. When in Japan I did alot of camping during spring and summer. Japan countryside is awesome. Winter I prefer to hotel it for the warm as well as for health. Don't want to fall sick on your vacation!!!

i love the whole idea of camping, getting close to nature, sitting around the campfire and all that, but i hate the lack of toilet facilities lol.

Staying in a nice hotel is always nice. After spending the day exploring im usually pretty dead on my feet and its nice to come back and have a hot shower and a comfortable bed, so id choose that.

Not sure what you mean by remote resorts...is that like a cabin in the middle of nowhere??

I used to like camping, but when I was in the military, I went "camping" too much, and now I just go to hotels if I travel. I don't want to walk 220 steps to the female bathroom. I want hot water. I don't want to sleep on a cot. I guess it is like that old saying.....I am built for comfort, not for style.

Depends on the time of year & temperature. Good weather - I prefer camping in my motorhome with the wife & dogs. In cool weather, hoteling works best.
