How do you treat someone who is the OPPOSITE of a hoarder?
My mother throws everything out--she has to do this every day, even if they are valuable or sentimental items. I am sure it's a compulsive or obsessive behavior. Has anyone heard of this and if there is a way to help her? Thanks!

It certainly is a disorder but your mom would have to have a correct diagnosis from a psychiatrist who can help her and prescribe an anti-anxiety medication while she goes through a little therapy to help her with this. I know that this is disturbing her and causing as much emotional and mental discomfort and a hoarder would experience. This is something that she can't do by herself. Unless she is able to learn the reasons behind it she will go right back to it. You sound like a very good and caring son. You can discuss this with your mother and convince her of her need for help and she doesn't have to live with the anxiety that she may not even recognize that causes her to do this^

The word "has" to is a big red flag. Start out by talking to her about why is she doing this. What she feels like when she does this. Talking is one of the most powerful things we can do to understand people.
You could call the Mental Health Association and talk to someone there about how to get your mother to see that she needs help. The number is in the phone book.
Make sure to tell them how long she has been doing this. If this is something that has just recently started this, could also be a sign of depression also.
I know someone who does this every few months, not everyday though.
