I joined Alcoholics Anonymous in 2006 after a 50 year drinking habit as an atheist. I was taught in rehab to find a 'higher power', not necessarily the god as we were taught in school, but a higher power than myself, once we in AA have done that we call it a 'god of our understanding' and many members have chosen many different things, but in the book of Alcoholics Anonymous wherever the word 'god' is mentioned, it means the god of our own understanding, I could grasp that concept and have been totally abstinent since.

One of the few prayers that I do say therefore is on adopted by AA as it's 'serenity prayer' and it goes like this.

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference", it has worked for me, and for millions of others that AA has saved.

Prayer has different purposes. We can seek answers, understanding and insight, help and strength, forgiveness, growth and change, and express gratitude. Among the many things I pray about, the one that I'm working hardest on at the moment is a particular characteristic that I would like to change in myself. Prayer is indeed worthwhile, for one example, to refine and perfect our character.

Not much. I pray when I am required. Does prayer work? Sure it does, considering all the misses. Your prayer will work if God grants it within His will.

Here is a funny video about prayer:

I pray about whatever may be bothering me all the time and I try to make a point to thank God for beautiful days or pleasant happenings, whatever. I often think of prayer as like having an outlet for all the things I don't feel like talking to others about.

    Prayer is deep self awareness.

All things prayed for can only come from within,

and it's up to the individual to generate positive energy

    for all things hoped.

Prayer is the only way to communicate with Almighty God.

    Yes.

"But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father secretly. Then your Father, who knows all secrets, will reward you" (Matthew 6:6).

Any time we humans give up some time to communicate with Almighty God, it is worthwhile.

    Be Blessed:-)

Oh Heavens YES! I have had many prayers answered, even while I was praying. But to get the answers one has to really believe in God and obey God, to prove one is worthy of the answer. There have been times God has rescued a none believer, yet too often they do not thank God. I pray throughout each day.

  • I always get an answer to prayer some times it is yes some times it is answered in God's time not mine and some time when I have not prayed in His will He says NO!
