Contrast how America deals with children that are unwanted by their parents with how other countries handle the same situation. Just take a look at this video:

about such a topic I dont think you should focus on Grabbing attention. Try to treat it with the sensitivity and insightfulness that it deserves. In intelligent, human essay is that the world needs, Not another crazy, judgemental overzealous person on either side of this debate. Try to arrive at your decision in a reasoned way that does not preach or demean the choices of others. Sometimes I am against it and sometimes I am for it but I ALWAYS despise the hate that people show eachother when they debate it. Good luck!

You can make a comparison to something that's equally as horrific (I'm not against abortion if it's in a rape case, but casual abortion is not okay, for me), to grab the reader's attention. Something about murder, perhaps? Or you could try finding a startling piece of statistics...stuff like that.

Hope this helped, and good luck!! :)

In 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau determined the population of California and Florida combined to be approximately 50 million people. Now imagine that the entire population of both of those states have suddenly ceased to exist. 50 million lives. Gone forever. Since Roe vs. Wade was amended in 1973, over 50 million abortions have occurred. Enough lives to populate the entire states of California and Florida.
