If a police officer is beating someone Do they have the right to protect and fight back?
If you are being attacked for any reason by a policeman and you see yourself getting hurt and end in up in a hospital or permanently injured, can you fight back and resist arrest to save your life?
Or, just let the system (paid and supported by you the taxpayer) that allowed the policeman to do these things to you take care of the problem after you are arrested, injured and in the hospital or dead in some instances.
My buddy was involved in a case where he was being beaten by cops. He's 6'', 290 lb and the 2 idiot cops thought that they can teach him a lesson. After he saw blood from his mouth caused by cops pushing him against the wall he began to protect himself and when the cops attacked him he nailed both of them and both cops were out on the ground. He then called 911 and waited till officers arrived, explained the situation and then was arrested. About 30 cops and investigators showed up and when they took witness testimony. He was release 10 hrs later with no charges. The incident was a stupid DUI traffic stop and it was escalated when he did not want to allow the officers to search his vehicle. They then decided to arrest him for no reason and without warning (Guess they were scared of his size and perhaps him putting up resistance) both cops attacked him and it escalated from there. Cops concluded that the traffic stop was legal but the search and arrest was not, No substance in his system

Yes, people have the right to defend themselves from illegal excessive force from police officers...
However, the same system that is beating you is the system that will determine if your actions are self defense or provocation and its not going to end up well for you

I haven't heard this story, it is a very horrific thing that happened. I have been following the Caylee Anthony's disappearance for so many months that I haven't heard too much more. I watch Headline News all the time and didn't hear about it. In fact, I am listening and watching things on Nancy Grace right now. The incident you are talking about should be investigated and the should absolutely sue the police department and those cops should be fired immediately. This will stay with this little girl the rest of her life. Let the father and mother in a cell with each one of the cops alone also and let the parents have at them. They could have a field day with them. I could have a field day with them. The cops would be in the hospital for quite sometime.

You have to try to take the beating otherwise you will be charged with resisting arrest and/or assaulting an officer. Of course if you had it on video that is a different story (not the police cam.) But either way the police officer would probably just get a slap on the wrist unless you had really good proof because the system sucks.

If a police officer uses unnecessary force, you have every right to defend yourself in an effort to protect yourself.
However, you also need proof that the force was excessive. That is very difficult to do, as an officer is allowed to escalate force if you are resisting arrest.

If you get beaten by a police officer and you fight back you'll have a long list of charges from resisting arrest, to battery on a police officer, etc. but if you just lay there and take it like a man, my man, you'll be looking at a big pay day, maybe a new car, a house, a year's worth of doing nothing but watch TV. C'mon, man, take one for the team

Regardless of knowing that these things happen...it is rare. I doubt a policeman would beat up on you for no reason. He does have a right to defend himself but not go to the extreme....how ever he has the right to do what he feels is necessary to make life safe for HIMSELF, HIS BUDDIES and society.
I know way too many cops to know that they are not going to beat someone up just to be mean or nasty.
YOU CAN fight back and save your life..but you better be SURE you gave the cop NO REASON TO DEFEND in the first place. RARELY..and I mean RARELY does a cop start it.

That is a sticky subject. The fact is, if you defend yourself, the cop will simply turn his bruises into the idea that he was attacked by you. These days, there are more corrupt officers than ones who have honor. I was in a situation where the police in Pleasantville, NJ did something awful to me as well. I was shocked but had no recourse. I really think the rules and laws regarding officers need to be changed
