It should not only be in a knock-out pattern but also there should be two different groups - Elite and Plate and the top 2 teams from Plate should go up while bottom 2 teams to go to Plate group. The first innings should be limited to a maximum of 100 overs each to infuse some interest and there should be no carry over of overs to the II innings. The second innings should be played till finish with a maximum duration should remain 5 days. 100 overs should be completed within the stipulated playing hours and only due to extraneous circumstances, the number of overs should be reduced. There should be a stiff penalty clause whereby for slow over rates the penal punishment should be progressive. For the first 3 overs bowled short, the penalty in terms of runs should be the rate at which the batting teams scored and for every subsequent two overs, the rate increase at 1.5, 2 ...times the rate of scoring. (That is if the run rate is 4 per over, then for the 1 over bowled short 6 run should be added and for 2 overs bowled short, the rate should be 8 so on and so forth). This penalty should be over and above the monetary punishment which should also be geometric progression. Such thing would infuse interest into the game. For the second innings also there should be over rate stipulations should be there, however, there should be only monetary punishment and the captain should be banned for at least 1 test if he falters for 2 occasions and such ban should also be progressive. The teams may change captains to avoid this clause. To obviate this, there should be provision so that subsequent captains also come with a suitable handicap. The purpose of this is ensure fair play.

No way it is crickets premier event.
t20 will continue to grow but will not become bigger than the 50 over world cup
- KeplJoeyLv 71 decade ago
No it most certainly will not. The 50 over form of the game is doing well enough on its own to suggest it will still be around in 2015.
