You probably mean Sabah, Malaysian Borneo... If you want a resort type holiday, with swimmijng pools and good food, then this is not for you. This does not mean Sabah do jot have these to offer, but there are options.... If you like adventure, walking, nature, then maybe: * Treaking up a mountain - this may be Mt Kinabalu, highest peak in SEA. The actual treaking is only about 9 hours normally - you start at about 7:00 in the morning and reach the 3/4 mark where you rest and spend the night [2* hotel]....you starty again at about 2 to 3 a.m. for the final treak up the peak, reaching the peak at about 6:30 to 7:00 a.m. in time to catch a most beautiful sun rise....whether permiting....the rest of the week will brobably be spend at the surrounding area (cool highland atmosphere). * Helping at a school: This may be a center for the hadicapped, or a r3eform school....or the world famous oranf hutan sanctury at Sepilok, Sandkan.....or a community project. * Tourism: The usual places---turtle island, andn since you are from Australia, visits to memorial parks related to WW2 would surely be included. [google for the following key words, or combination : Kota Kinabalu; Sandakan; Sepilok; War memorial; Sandakan Park; etc. Well, this won't be the only opportunity. Sabah will always be there, but since this is a school trip, it is meant for a learning experience. There were some school students who came, then came back for research for their PhDs. For them, the car can wait....NZ can wait.....
