If the NCAA tourney started today would defending Champs Carolina and a #1 seed last yr UCOnn be in?
This is off course tradition aside. But just on the merit of their work. i know they play in the ACC and Big East respectively but do they deserve to be in over some of the other teams from smaller conferences who might not be as well known? Your thoughts???

At 2-6 in the ACC, UNC does not belong in the tournament. Typically if a team from the larger conferences have a .500 or better record in the conference they get a better look for the tournament at this stage UNC would not make it. Their schedule from this point is not great. They have Duke twice and Georgia Tech as their only ranked opponents left on the schedule.
It doesn't look good for UConn either. They are currently 4-6, they have 5 of their next 8 on the road and games with at Syracuse, at Villanova and at Notre Dame. They must win these three games. They don't have any quality wins. Losses that hurt them are Cincinnati, Michigan and Providence. They must get more quality wins...right now they just have one in Texas at home.
In my opinion...they need to both win their conference tournaments to get in.

I am a UNC fan and deon't see them making the topurnament. The answer above says with 2 or 3 more loses they will be a 10 - 16 seed. The way they are playing they qill be lucky to get 2 or 3 more wins this year.
As for UCONN they have a better chance at a low but a very tough schedule.

In my personal opinion, no both teams do not deserve to be in if they keep raking in the loses. Both UNC and UConn have tough games coming up. UNC has Duke up next and UConn has Syracuse. I am pretty sure with about 2-3 more loses, UNC will either get a 10-16 seed or they will be in the NIT. UConn will definitely have to play a lot harder over the next couple of games just to get in the tournament.
