Eventually, yes. Medical bills are generally not immediately reported for non-payment, but eventually they will be. Contact the lab and let them know that you are currently discussing this bill with your insurance company. They will probably agree to put the bill "on-hold" for 30 days (they have with me in the past), after this time you will be expected to pay. Be advised, that you can pay the bill and continue arguing with the insurance company. If and when the insurance company pays the lab, you will then get a refund of what you paid. Medical bills can be sent to collection agencies just like any other bill...

If they send it to a collection agency yes. So what you may want to do, is let the lab know what's going on, and find out how much longer they are willing to wait. In the mean time, if you think your insurance company truly is not paying on purpose, you can file a complaint with your state's insurance commissioner, regardless where the company is located. In the end, you may have to pay the lab yourself if you can, and have the insurance company pay you.

    Hell Yes!

They will treat that baby like a regular collections, he minute it goes on your credit for non-payment, you score will get that instant drop!

The best way to start out is to notify the lab that you are disputing with the insurance company so they can possibly hold off on putting you into collections. Once you go into collections then you have to start that whole fight so its better to prevent it rather then fix it?
