Why do some believe they could predit the future by what happened in the past?

Many use the past to predict what will happen in the future, is this logical? Isn't the future uncertain with way too many variables to predict it? Or are events and people predictable?

You are correct in that man cannot predict what will happen ( as the psychics and etc try to do ) but the Word of God has had every single of the 1000's of Prophecies fulfilled, with the exceptions of the ones in the near future, like the Rapture

The future is predictable. EXAMPLE: Five minutes ago I poured a bunch of gasoline on my neighbor's house. Then I lit it on fire. That happened in the past. I predict that the house will burn down. Then I will get 20 years in prison for arson. Would you argue against that?

Usually history will repeat itself. Society seems to forget its past mistakes and makes them all over again

History repeats itself. Iraq and Afganistan are the new VietNam. More stupid wars fought for stupid reasons.
