Blood sugar out of whack.?

Recently I stopped at random screening and blood sugar registered 274 taken again it registered 215.

Then taken after thorough washing of hand it registered 101 and taken a second time again it registered 102. Very concerned, should I make an appointment with my doctor?

I know a person whose blood sugar jumped about 300 points due to a dirty hand. Anything on your hand, even soap residue, can elevate your reading. Any readings that you got prior to washing your hands should be disregarded. They're not to be trusted. The other two readings (post-hand washing) are close enough to each other that they likely reflect your true blood sugar at the time.

101-102 is perfectly normal blood sugar, especially if you'd eaten within a few hours of the testing. If that's your fasting, then it's a little high, and might be worth going to doctor to check. Random tests over 200 mg/dL are considered an automatic diagnosis of diabetes. Clearly, you're nowhere near that benchmark.

Did you know that coffee actually raises insulin and glycemic levels. Also that splenda is full of chemicals and artificial sweeteners are actually 300-600 times sweeter than sucrose so your body tries to produce that many more fat cells to hold sugar it 'thinks' is coming in. I drink an all organic fat-burning, low glycemic, low cephalic coffee by Boresha International. It actually helps diabetics and the sweetener they sell to go with it is 100% natural and even safe for babies. This could help your sugar levels if you want to know more here is some research information on some of the products. They are backed by 25 years of research.

Sounds like either the glucose monitor needs some repair, or whatever was on you hands affected the reading. In nursing school, I learned that studies found that alcohol swabs used to disinfect the finger before sticking can cause an artificial high reading. Perhaps you have something alcohol based on your hands (hand sanatizer or lotion?). If you are really worried though, you should see your doc.

BTW, if you were diabetic, some of the symptoms include

frequent urination, frequent hunger, frequent thirst, nausea, tired--if high

sweaty/clammy skin, shakiness, irritability --if low
