Where was the movie shutter island really filmed? What island? Was there a insane asylum on a island in Boston Harbor? Was this totally fictitious?

    I know there was an old war fort on an island in Boston that they held prisoners at. But I have no ideal whats it called or answers to the other part of your question. Interesting movie either way!

    Yes it's all fiction, and it was filmed in different locations of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Nova Scotia.
