is pain a ab normal condition, when you have pain its feel bad a lot, we can't sleep and every thing we don't like because of some severe pain.
or pain is the indication of that some thing is going wrong with your body. if we have some infection inside body if pain does not happen, how we will reckon there is some thing wrong.
just like appendix, if there would be no pain, all patience of appendix would have died. but just because of pain many patience have survived after treatment.
so here two expects about pain.

Both I think, and it depends on the scenario.
1. Pain is bodies defense that something is wrong with a particular part of the body. As you said the pain of appendicitis helps localize the region of affliction.
