Do you think the NBA should institute a rule about players being traded & then re-signing with their old teams?

In the past couple of seasons we've seen trades where players have then gone back and signed with their old teams and it's like giving something for nothing. i know teams are getting cap space but don't you think the NBA should do something about that to add a little more legitimacy to trades? Your thoughts???

Update:

Big Z is the most recent example but actually wasn't think of Cleveland... just have seen it the last couple of seasons and don't really personally care for it- so just wondering what others think?

Update 2:

Thanks everyone for your input- thumbs up for everyone... going with It- i agree with him that there is no way to prove it... thanks everyone for your thoughts and input.

They already have the rule that if the Player agrees to re-sign with the team in advance before the trade is done, then they are in trouble. We ALL know Big Z and the Cavs had a deal but How can you prove it? Sad There is no clear evidence to prove it. They followed the rules, but owell they should be allowed to do it if they followed the rules right?

The only ones really complaining are the ones that know they will be facing the Cavs in the playoffs. Rightfully so. They added 20 PPG 10 REB per game Jamison for nothing,

I like how Boston has complained about the Z deal with Cleveland but yet Boston pulled the same thing the year they won the title. And of course Phil Jackson has been vocal about it since his team has already been on the losing end to the Cavs twice this year with Z putting up two nice game on the Lakers.

NBA will probally make a change after this year now that Rivers and Jackson had their say in things.. They have bigger problems on their plate though, like keeping gun toting thugs (Arenas) out of the league.

Fav crew: Chicago Bulls participant: Derrick Rose, a quickly to be consistent all-movie star. Too quick and elusive for the Celtics to guard. seem for the Bulls to take interest 2 and with them going to Chicago for video games 3 and four, they be in a position to take down the Celtics in 6. The Bulls are 14-2 at homestead because the all-movie star ruin.

Well they put in the 30 days clause to slow this down because it been happening for years before they put the 30 days clause a few years ago,

These situation are for cost cutting for the team that trades for a player and then buy out their contract.

But I think the Laker trade for Gasol for Kwame was a little off balance and the only reason why Memphis did it was to cut out Gasol salary. So I do not think that is much of a difference considering both teams got what they wanted out of the deal.

Z could have gone to any other team but his heart is in Cleveland, his minutes is cut and the Cavs been doing fine without him but he chose to come back there and it benefits both teams. Is it bad for other teams yes but like I said the Celtics benefited for off balance trades and won the championship, As soon as the Lakers got Gasol they went to the finals and then eventually won and that trade was off balance and this trade is off balance but I think Z coming back was more for sentimental reason more so that they thought they really needed him. Shaq got hurt after he was technically traded.

I think that is a bad rule for the NBA to institute as it wouldn't help these players to sign with their old team as I am sure they would help their old team but still they can help their new team when they do get traded.

  • No, it's fine the way it is. If the NBA saw anything wrong with it, they would have done something about it long time ago. If a player is a free agent, he's free to do whatever he wants key word here is "free"

No, because someday the Lakers may need to do the same thing. I don't have any problem with people outsmarting the system of finding loopholes. It's also been part of the game for a while now and the Cavs aren't guaranteed anything by getting Big Z back.

So... yeah... I got no problem with it.

Well, if it's the Lakers who take advantage of these situations then no, I don't think the NBA should do anything about it.

If it's any other team, then yes they should be heavily penalized.
