Would you actually make a donation to the Sesame Workshop?

With the amount of merchandise available for sale and the profits generated from licensing of the Sesame Street characters, do you find it slightly audacious for the Sesame Workshop to ask for donations, let alone have non-profit status?

Here's the link if you don't believe me:

According to their Annual Report they made $95,309,000 in 2009. Granted they also spent a lot of money in program development, but so does NBC.

Update:

I worked in non-profit management for five years. I understand the role of fundraising. They can spend their money however they want, I just find it audacious that they ask to donate directly. The fact they also get federal grant money is another subject.

The point of a non-profit is not that it's not supposed to make any money. A good non-profit will make a *LOT* of money -- and then they'll distribute most of that money in accordance with the goals of their particular organization.

I approve of the causes the Sesame Workshop supports. So, to answer your question -- Yes, I would.
