Get files off of an external hard drive?
I purchased a Western Digital brand 250 GB portable hard drive for the purpose of having a backup of files stored on my PC's hard drive. After using the USB cord to connect the two devices, it appears that a copy of my files was made to the portable hard drive. However, when I tried to open up a file (just to see if it worked) by selecting "my computer" on the E drive, I could see a zip folder of substantial size (8 GB), but couldn't open any individual files.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to see my files?
Also, now that I have this device, do you know a website that has tips on using such storage devices effectively.

Without knowing what backup program you used, I can only guess.
But with most zip files if you click on them, they will open a window that displays the individual files stored with it. Then you can extract whichever individual files you want.

hiya there..i had a similar precise problem no longer some time past, my exterior HDD died on homestead windows, so i've got been given my hands on Ubuntu and gave it a attempt, i replaced into able to get admission to my HDD from there, and made a backup of the countless significant archives i wanted, for the reason that in homestead windows i'm getting a "this annoying disk isn't formated" blunders, am uncertain why even even though it stored on happening repeatedly lower back, so if utilising Ubuntu does not remedy the project, then your greater appropriate with looking a technician who can shield and desire that no actual harm has been achieved to the stress! solid success :)
