No, I don't think it is really newsworthy enough. People in denial about the state of scientific research have obviously considered similar articles and letters on the side of the opposition view very newsworthy, but I personally think it is a relatively minor statement-albeit by a fair number of scientists.

What is striking to me is that it appears by their answers several respondents to your question here either didn't read the letter or didn't comprehend it.

It is possible that, in time to come, the outlook reflected in the letter may gain wider understanding by the general public, but I'd suspect most people who don't have the chops to read and understand a mass market publication like 'Science' wouldn't really grasp the politization of science itself.

I think the fantasy world those like jim live in is coming to an end and they don't like it. The theft and hacking at the CRU show the level deniers are now prepared to go to. The inquiry has cleared the scientists involved, but it remains to be seen what desperate stunt deniers will try next.

I am sure they would like to be above any criticism but they need to grow up and stop attempting to silence any criticism. They have damaged the credibility of science and anyone that cared about the truth would be outraged by their behavior and those attempting to cover up for them including most of the media.

Will the media start reporting that the alarmunists try to silence their opposition? Probably not.

Will they continue being as insulting as beingher? probably.
