Difference between 'Permanent Disability' and 'Permanent Impairment?'?
A friend asked me this question: what exactly IS the difference between a permanent disability rating and a permanent impairment, and how would each one affect an injury settlement differently?

disability is mental or physical impairment that affects day to day life significantly for a year or more,so a lifelong disability is going to have a big impact on a persons life, but they will be better protected than those who 'just' have an impairment due to disability discrimination acts [eg,DDA and ADA] which do not protect those with impairment but no disability, there are also more services, benefits and support available to people disabled by impairment [or other peoples reaction to/treatment of it,if want to use the social model of disability].
an impairment is a difficulty that can exist without disability, and a permenant impairment will have a lesser impact on the persons life.
