when I was at school, a very long time ago, we had 8 lessons of 45 minutes each and homework from each subject once a week of about 30-60 minutes. In school for about 8 hours.
when I taught in a school, it was six periods of 50 minutes a day and homework was 30 minutes for year 7 and 2 hours for year 11. In school for about 7 hours
I think school is getting easier!
Source(s): I now teach in another country and they have 10 periods of 50 minutes and two hours of homework a day, 6 days a week and 5 hours on the other day! - Anonymous1 decade ago
In Britain it's generally around 7 hours a day. Usually from 8/9-4. Homework wise only a couple hours a week, nothing big to those who do the work.

In Ireland school is usually 9pm-3.45pm
Homework = We're supposed to do 3 hours of homework and 3 and a half hours of study every night. In my school we have a journal that gives us guidelines on how much homework/study we should do.
1st year (12/13 year olds) is about 1 and half hours of study and 1 hours of homework.
It works up to 6th year from there.
So I was usually doing my homework until 10pm every night.

I have 7 hours of school a day and homework depends on the year and school.
As a Year 11 I'm expected to have up to 2hrs a night.
Year 7s only have half an hour.
It also varies in different schools.
