Where would I find a cheap desktop hard-drive?

Ok, I messed up my computer by downloading a virus onto it about 1 year ago, it was all cleared but it has never been the same since, i have a laptop now so i don't go on the main computer much any more but i feel bad as other people in my family need to go on it and it is really slow.

I want a hard-drive which is fast has alot of memory. I only have £200-£300 does anyone have any recommendations of hard-drives(desktops). All it will be needed for is, internet and probably writing up documents(microsoft office) nothing special.

Thanks for any help

Update:

Ok, i feel like a right tw*t when i said hard-drive i was incorrect, i meant computer.(im not very good with computer terms, it's the big box thing on the floor lol) hope the question still makes sense

I assume by "hard drive" you mean "computer." Since you seem to use the term in that fashion. Also, £300 is quite a lot of money to spend on just a hard drive. But not that much for a whole computer. And when I say "computer," I'm not including a monitor.

Anyway, there are no common viruses out there that actually do any damage to your computer's hardware. But there are many, many viruses out there that can stay embedded on your drive through many "cleanings." In fact, most viruses are focused around that single purpose.

However, there are also very few (if any) common viruses that can live through a hard drive wipe.

Therefore, your best bet is to simply reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and programs. Make sure you back up your data first. And I also highly recommend getting some help the first time you do this so you don't mess anything up. But once you learn, it's a pretty simple (if time consuming) operation.

That operation alone should speed up your computer considerably (if it's anything like most people's computers). So if you were happy with the speed at one point, then you should be happy with it again once you reformat/reinstall.

    Good luck!

A new hard drive AINT gonna solve your problem. There is nothing wrong with the drive thats in it if its running! Your family most likely has it so full of malware its not funny. I'd almost bet that they have a ton of software loading on startup that isnt needed either. Its kind of like trying to use a Volkswagen to haul a full cattle trailer up a hill! What your family NEEDS is a basic computer course! A new drive WONT make it run any better if you are going to keep loading it with funkware..

£200 - £300?!? You'd only spend that on an Solid State Drive.

If I were you, I'd go for the Samsung F3 1TB hard drive. £60, very fast.
