My dog won't eat anything?

I have a 7 year old chauauah and she won't eat. We tried giving her soft dog treats but she won't even eat those anymore. We don't have the money to go to the vet. Help!!???

Update:

we havn't seen her drinking water and we have like three different kinds of dog food, including soft food. She'll take maybe two bites of soft food then walk away.

A dog who refuses to eat anything has a serious problem and we sure can't help you. She needs the vet. Perhaps you can sell your computer or some other luxury to provide your dog with necessary vet care.

Hold the puppy and soothe him, petting him and talking gently to him. have a small bowl of puppy chow nixed with some wet dog food and water to make a slurry. If no wet food just use water. When he's calm, try hand feeding him. If he eats, give him more. He won't starve but hypoglycemia or low blood sugar is a problem. If he starts staring, becomes listless try some karo syrup on his tongue. if he becomes non responsive or won't take the syrup call the vet. But he may be sick, what are his stools like? Has the breeder done any de-worming? Worms can cause what you are seeing. He could have a cold. So many things could be causing the symptoms you're seeing. A vet is your best solution Hope you and puppy have a long happy like together

She may have some bad teeth and if that is the case you can get her some baby food or ground up some meat at home and put some of the broth from the meat in it too so it is not too dry. These types of dogs do tend to lose their teeth faster then most.

You never said if she was drinking and I hope she is, if she is not doing this either then you better find some money. You can also give her a baby asprin since she may be in pain.

Dogs do not cry out like we might and they can be in very bad pain and you will not know it.

Many things can be wrong with her but you really need to try to get her to eat anything you can.

How long has your dog not been eating.. And do you keep a bowl full at all time.. I only ask cuz if you leave a bowl out and it has food in it, your dog could just be grayzing when your not paying attention.. But if your dog just stopped eating, then she might just be picky or something like that, but she'll eat if she is hungry, but if its been a bit and she hasn't been eating then you really do need to go to the vet.. best of luck..

Do you give your dog lots of human food then stopped? That's what happened to my dog. We just start giving her dog food and try not to give so much human food if you did. If that doesn't work, save up some money to take your dog to the vet. Hope this helps!

Taking her to te vet would be my number one recomendation!!

But dogs get minor sicknesses as well as kids. Is she drinking? Is she passing bowls? is it diareah?

I found a site that answers this question and has a tip. But it could be a case that requiers an anti biotic.

I wish the best of luck to you and your little girl! My thoughts are with you!

  • my chihuahua did this too. i gave her milk, with water. she was vary dehydrated. this lasted for about a night till we new what was going on. but if she/he dose not drink this take her to the vet/'doggie hospital'. also, not to scare you, but when my Rottweiler (we adopted) was not eating we took her to the vet and she had heart cancer... that might be the case. our dog was took from a family that smoked, now i dont know if you smoke but that could be a possibility..... i would try the milk, with water thing 1st. =) i hope i helped also, maybe try giving it a small bit of hot dog too.

~i hope your dog feels better. and i hope i helped =)

Or maybe learn how to spell your dogs breed right???

Your dog needs a vet!! Call one now!! Money or not, you will find one who will look at your dog. They will set up a payment plan. She could be on her way out, dogs sometimes stop eating when they are ill and just want to rest. I urge you, really, call a vet!!

I don't understand how one can own a pet and not afford their care. Call every single vet in your phone book. Tell them your situation and see if they will bill you in installments, but get your dog to a vet if she's not eating.
