Is Chile an expensive country for tourist shopping?

    It depends. 1Dollar is about $550 Chilean pesos, You buy a Soda in a Soda Machine for that price, or buy a bottle of water for $350 Chilean Pesos. Also Hotel may vary from $45.000 to $500.000 each night.

    It's not an expensive country if you're from USA, but it's not as cheap as Argentina shopping.

    I've seen many people from other countries and asked them about prices and they told me that it was cheaper that they thought, so I don't think is "Expensive".

    Chile and Brazil are the 2 most expensive countries in South America, go shopping in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador or Argentina.

    It really depends where you'll be doing your shopping; If you go to the regular tourist traps, then yes, it will be more expensive compared to any other out-of-the-typical-tourist-way.

    Avoid buying things in the airport or the malls.
