What are you going to be driving in 30 years time?
I tend to hang out on the cycling section, where we occasionally get motorists berating us for various reasons. I was looking at one facebook post where two cyclists were squirted with orange juice by a motorist. There is definately antagonisim between the two forms of transport. However, while I know that I will still be riding a bike in 30 years time, the motorist can not make the same claim with any certainty. Our oil researves were set to run out in about 30 years time. With China and India able to purchase more oil than us, the car may very well be on a short life span. So other than getting a head start on two wheels, what do you think will replace the car? Will you have to consider mass transit?
Johny, electric cars are fine, but have a limited radius. The main problem though is electrical generation. The UK does not have enough power stations to cope with the next 20 years predicted usage, let alone throwing car chargers into the equation. In order to make this viable you would have to build a lot more power stations, probably nuclea.
Itybity. Your a bus driver, so you hate everybody. Sort of negates your vote. I know this is a hard concept, but bikes a road vehicles. It is against the law for us to use the pavement. Learn to share.

I HATE politics for this reason; I believe we will be driving some kind of oil burning something-or-other until there is not another drop of it left.
I WISH this country would advance regardless of where the BIG money is. Since there are so many people that stand to make a buck in the oil industry, I believe we are fooling ourselves thinking we will ever stop wasting the natural resources of this planet and move ahead technologically and environmentally.
For example look back 40-60 years ago before alternative fueled vehicles where thought of, some dude built a carburetor that would get 100mpg and what happened to it? The government bought it and all the rights to it.
I would bet every penny I have made and will ever make, that there have been countless, working, feasible ideas for mass transportation, which would benefit this planet and the people on it that the government has slammed the door on because of the money in the oil industry.
To Answer Your Question, in my perfect world, greed and power would not be an issue and I think we would all be driving some sort of fusion powered clean burning vehicle with no tires.
Source(s): I dont like you cyclists much either because most of you are just as selfish as the oil tycoons. I drive a school bus in the country and one day a self-centered health freak is going to cause an accident and get several people killed because he/she wants to ride bicycles on a road that is too narrow to share with cars. - ?Lv 71 decade ago
In 30 years I will likely be driving a car with an internal combustion engine fueled by natural gas. The car is too convenient to be replaced for most people. We engineers have tons of ways to make a car go. It is just that the gasoline engine is the cheapest way for now. But if people were willing to pay double what they pay now per mile, we have tons of alternatives.
The oil age will be over in 30 years and not particularly missed.

Did you ever hear of an invention known as the electric car? These wonderful things run on an electric battery. I would image as demand grows for these they will become better and cheaper. They can run on electricity produced from renewables such as solar, wind and hydro.
That's the future

I shall be cycling to, that's as long as my knees are still working and that I haven't died in a terrible crash in Afan forest or Coed y Brenin :-)

In thirty years time, I will probably be a passenger in a hearse!

I shall probably be driving something long, sleek and highly polished.
It won't go very far but it will last me an eternity.
