laws on dogs barking?
I have 5 dogs and they dont bark all day only when they are playing or someone comes to the door.
My neighbors at either side are saying they bark all night and have reported us to the council. These people tried to stop us from getting the house before we moved in and have decided they do not like us before they know us.We are nice people and i guess some people would love us as neighbors but these two are determined to get us out. May i add they both have cats
For the unkind person who is nasty my dogs r in the house most of the day unless we take them for a walk they r only little tiny pomeranians not big alsations and i have to put up with their cats pooing on my lawn and never complain so u dont really no what u r talking about.

There are usually noise ordinances no matter where you live.
What you can do is keep track of when your dogs do bark -- like a log book: 4pm Granny came to visit dogs barked for less than 1 minute, 8pm dogs playing in yard barked for 10 minutes. That sort of thing, and then show what you have collected to the council pointing out that you (or you + others) are home at night and the dogs are kept indoors and they do not bark during the hours claimed.
I know of someone whose neighbor didn't like that they got a dog at all and called the police after even 1 bark out of the dog. They went to a neighborhood arbitration and after showing their log, they were able to prove that their neighbor was a nut who was just out to pick on them.
Maybe you could even videotape your dogs when they are barking outside to demonstrate how long it does last and at what time you take the dogs in for the night so that you are respectful of noise ordinances.

Are your dogs living in (or in at night), or outside. Is it possible that, if they are out, you actually don't hear them once you are asleep, and perhaps they are barking during the night?
I'd say the burden of proof is on them, but be aware, unfortunately, you do have 5 dogs, and will be a target, even if it's not your dogs making the racket!! Been there. So make sure of your facts (that your dogs are not making a noise throughout the night) and then make sure they have proof that you are to blame.

Your dogs are outside at night? Then bring them in. Barking dogs in the middle of the night is very disturbing. I wouldn't put up with it from my neighbors and I have 10 dogs. They do not stay outside.

If you use a dog training device it would be common sense to first look up how to use it before using it. Such devices get a bad reputation by people using it, without knowing how to use it.
If you give a dog a shock, the dog doesn't know what to do. If I go up to you and slap you, you wouldn't know why either and except for the likely impulse to slap me back you would have no idea why I slap you and what I expected you to do so I won't slap you again.
Your dog doesn't even know where the slap came from and what he is supposed to do. Before you use an electric collar on a dog you need to figure out the lowest setting the dog can notice. You start at zero and slowly set it higher until you see a reaction from your dog. What you are looking for is a twitch of an ear, or a startled look. Really, you don't want to hurt your dog, you want to get your dog's attention.
Once you established what level works for your dog, you need to condition your dog. If you want to use a collar for improving your dog's recall, your dog needs to already know what it is supposed to do when you call "come" (or whatever command you use). Now with a collar on, you call your dog, you can give your dog a short shock, but if your dog comes you stop immediately. You want that your dog learn he is in control. If he comes, he won't get a shock. Read up on "how to condition a dog to a electric collar" and don't use the collar again until you understood it.
I have an electric collar for my dog, but I paid a little more than $200 for it, it is rechargeable and I am happy with it. I've read through a whole bunch of reviews for the cheaper collars and they seem to not last very long, though you can get lucky. But I figured I rather spend more one time than a little often.
My dog is also very happy with the electric collar, because if I pull the collar out, he knows he is doing something more fun than a walk on a leash and he loves running off leash.

...Five dogs barking, even if it isn't all day, would be VERY annoying.
Why are you moaning about them reporting you and what does them having cats to do with it? Does their mewing annoy you or something?
Get your dogs under control. You're FULLY responsible and should get in trouble for barking dogs!
