Environmentalists blocking alternative energy?
I been hearing a real lot on how most of the opposition to cleaner technology is coming from environmentalists themselves.
Opposing wind farms due to birds getting killed, opposing solar due to not wanting the infrastructure anywhere.
Is this true? or just more propaganda? If true why would they do this? It may not be 100% zero impact safe but it's certainly better than staying on oil

It's true. Environmentalist are not really interested in solutions. Otherwise they would actually be building the solutions. Instead environmentalist just complain about everything and come up with new lies to scare everybody with.

Some people are just a bunch of hypocrits. Like at Hampshire college in Amherst, Mass. It is a liberal arts college with courses in alternative energy, yet there are no solar panels. Not everybody is a hypocrit, though. Energy can easily be produced cleanly, but Republicans and conservatives are blocking it. I'm not entirely thrilled about Obama calling for the construction of a new nuclear plant, either.

It is not a contradiction:
the easiest and most efficient way is to reduce the amount of energy by intelligent solutions,
e.g. instead of producing more bio-diesel or alcohol to be burned in cars it makes more sense to increase the miles/gallon of the cars used. According to this overview the miles per gallons used in the US by cars went from 16 m/g to 22 m/g from 1980 to 2007. Most cars today get a Miles of > 30 m/g, hybrids get 40 m/g. ( I am talking cars here : not SUV's or trucks !)
Before increasing the production of electricity by placing more Wind-power parks on the shore - replace e.g. old air conditioning systems, TV (from tube to LCD), fridges, light bulbs with more efficient appliances (Energy Star concept).
Even when you build alternative energy producing equipment it should be build where the impact is as low as possible (e.g. in Europe exists a concept to establish solar power plants in the deserts of North Africa instead of building plants in already high condensed areas of European countries).
One lesson what we should learn from the past is that we have to consider the impact of our decisions on the social and biological environment before we act and not start to repair after we have made wrong decisions. With the technology and science we have today this will a lot easier then in the last centuries.

Yes it's true. That's what happens with freedom of speech, not that that's a bad thing. Everyone wants to have a say. It may help save energy to have wind farms, but there is always going to be someone or groups of people that disagree. I think we are our own worst enemies sometimes.

There all wackos plain and simple. We will still have to use oil and coal.
Its all about making them feel good about them selves at every one Else's expense.
Take Al Gore for instance, He wants us to drive electric cars while he flies around in a jet burning more fuel in one trip than you will use in your car in ten years.
