Do you know any "senior" sailors over 65?

WOW... If you know of any senior sailors, or boaters, over 65 - I sure would like to know.

Whether living aboard full time, sailing or not, solo or not... Is this a growing trend?

Ben Mews is also competing and he is 65+.

There are several members in this years' event who fall into or close to that category.

There are several sailors in my marina including liveaboards. One woman in her 70's has a trawler. She takes her boat out regularly...

My former boat partner has retired to Maui and windsurfs and sails as often as possible. Today is his 72nd B'day

Growing older is a trend that we cannot avoid .. we may as well continue our love for sailing/boating!

There is a 72 old man who owns a 44' sailboat I know. He is a very good man however he has cancer in his throat area which makes him unable to talk. Just because he can't talk doesn't mean he can't sail though! He doesn't live aboard but he goes to his boat every 2 days or something. Due to the fact that he has cancer, he hired a captain to manage his boat.

Also a rich Turkish business man, Rahmi Koc, who is over 65 traveled around the world with his masterpiece sailboat Nazenin IV. Now he is living half time aboard on Nazenin V. I think he will go on his second tour in a couple of years. Here is his website if you would care to take a look. http://www.nazenin4.com/en/default.asp

Sure. About 5% of all commercial fishermen in New England are over 65. Accordingly a slightly smaller percentage among merchant sailors.

I started lobstering when I was 7 with my neighbor, who was 70 at the time. We fished together for 10 years.

Hey there John, Yes, I know many "Senior" sailors. We have about 40 in our Power Squadron in the Bay Area. The oldest is 90! And they trailer their boat everywhere, AMAZING! We have boaters that power boat and sail into the Delta and would rather die onboard than anywhere else. The average age is about 68 right now. We lost Cliff who at 93 y/o, was the life of the party and never acted his age.

BTW, I'm referred to as the "Youngster", at 50 y/o, by everybody in our group get togethers.

Many. In Chicago they are almost the majority. My husband's entire crew is almost all between 60 and 80 years old.
