Why does men's Wimbledon champ receive a cup as a trophy while the ladies' champ a platter? What does it mean?

Is this true to all other big and famous tournaments as a standard or tradition?

Interesting observation! Maybe it implies that men drink, while women serve food to men?

    It is English, after all?

I haven't ever said that. It's not the money or the idea of a prestigious job.. it's about whether a man cares to take care of himself and is willing to put effort into a job.. be it a high paying job or one that doesn't pay as well.. Is he trying?

That's a really good question because the women's doubles finalists got trophy's and serena and vera only got the paltes. While my boo Rafael Nadal got a full blown trophy. I don't like the fact that they do that. I'd betmoney that serena could beat any women in five sets just like she does in three!!!!

Because men play five - set matches while women play only three sets so the organizers use lesser materials to make women's trophies.

    hmm..

i reckon (just guessing) it was an old traditional from a long time ago when tennis frist started, when women had less rights back then

It's just tradition. That's just the way it is.
