Can I buy a one way plane ticket like this?

Alright so I was wondering if this was possible with out me getting into any kind of trouble. After searching online lately the round trip tickets are ridiculous it's crazy how expensive they are at the moment. For the past like five years that I've been flying I've usually always bought my ticket around this time but it's never been this expensive. So I'm wanting to go see my girlfriend who lives in Canada. I live in the states. We were going to get a round trip ticket like we normally do but this time it's around 585 dollars non stop, and 450 1 stop. That's a little ridiculous in my opinion seeing how we were going to spend probably 400 on the ticket.

But as I was sitting there thinking, I was wondering if we could buy a one way ticket? They are cheaper, a lot cheaper. And I am staying there for at least three months. Were getting some things together for my move. And after the date that I wanted to come back on, I was wondering if we could buy a one way ticket for me to come back home.

So I guess my question is this. Am I able to buy a one way ticket to Canada, living in the states to stay for a bit, the time spam that I was going to stay on my round trip ticket anyways. Stay for the period that I wanted to stay and then buy a one way ticket back home? This seems so much cheaper and easier to do, but I don't want to get into any kind of trouble at the air port or do something I shouldn't be doing. If I can do this I'm going to be really sad seeing how I wish I would of done this a long time ago..would of saved me A LOT of money..

Update:

I buy my tickets usually around this time period and they've been no more then 300-350 close to 400. So if I can do the one way ticket ordeal with out any problems then this is what I want to do...Thanks

No, you cannot buy a one-way ticket. As you will be entering Canada as a tourist, you must show you will be leaving. Otherwise customs in Canada will refuse you entry and send you back to the US, likely on your own dime. And this is provided the airline at the airport will even let you board.

Is this one way ticket less than half the cost of the round trip ticket? If it is more than half the cost, then you will spend MORE money on two one way tickets.

You might want to to check the prices of both one-way trip segments of your flight. The one you found that is a lot less than round trip, and another one 3 months or so in the future when you plan to return. That is the only way that you can really compare the total cost between 1 round trip ticket and 2 one way tickets.

If the 2 one way tickets are still less expensive, then you could just buy both right now. That way you would have a return trip that you could show to anyone who asks about your plans to leave.

However..... I can find no explicit information that says you must have a round trip ticket.

    Starting at this web page:

    http://www.goingtocanada.gc.ca/CIC/display-affiche...

I eventually got to a page that says the following. See the section in Step 2.

    = = = = = = =

    Requirements to Enter Canada

    * You would like to visit Canada

    * You are a citizen of United States

    * You are visiting for less than six months

[United States]: Based on the information you provided, you may be eligible to visit Canada. As a citizen of this country, you will not need a Temporary Resident Visa.

    Your next steps are:

Step 1. Gather the necessary documents—a valid passport or travel document that guarantees re-entry to the country that issued it.

Note: Other documents may be required. Contact a Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate for information on what you will need before coming to Canada.

Step 2. Make sure that you have proof of funds available to support yourself and your family members during your stay and to enable you to leave Canada, such as a bank statement, pay stubs, proof of employment or proof of travellers’ cheques. When entering Canada, you will also need to convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit.

Step 3. Find out about inadmissibility to Canada, if you have a criminal conviction.

    = = = = = = = =

It only says that you have to convince the immigration officer that you have funds to support yourself, and that you do plan to leave. If you had ticket receipts from several past trips that showed you arriving and returning, that might help. Or, if you had the receipt from the second, already purchased, one-way trip, that should be suficient.

i think of i could be extra stressful relating to the precident it gadgets on your relationship. you would be in a much extra effective place in case you purchase your man or woman fee ticket and make it sparkling which you're popping out to bypass to him, fairly than he's bringing you to California. It has to do with suited boundries, and the indicators that adult males get. you want to do extra desirable than merely get off the plane and bounce in the sack (i could wager) so make him artwork a sprint...get him to courtroom you. that's a loss of existence paintings, yet whilst he's a guy of high quality, he will have an concept as to what to do. Make it a purpose that as quickly as you leave him after the bypass to is over, which you have the two had a gamble to proportion intimate know-how approximately one yet another, and you may't wait to benefit extra.
