chevy 350 stalls when put in GEAR?
this car has a 75 engine and was built to race has a total ford 9inch rearend and a ratchet shifter, the engine has a nice cam{whatever that means} sounds loppy any ways in neutral it will idle around 6-8 hundred rpm, when in gear it stalls. I have to idle it up to 2,000 rpm to get it to idle at 6-8 in gear, is this normal or am I missing some thing, I have checked the condenser to make sure the ground was fine and the ignition system is brand new??? My question is is is this like a drag car only, kind of start and go{it has 2 tires that the guy had spin till flat so the engine has so balls to it.. thanks for any help..

Sounds like it has a low/stock rpm stall speed torque converter thats loading engine and dragging rpm's down.
Race engine will need a higher idle speed but no where close to 2,000 rpm
Common idle speed is 800-1300 rpm
If it has a big cam and low stall converter it will pull the rpm down too low when going from park to gear. Also it will feel like its fighting or pulling the breaks when sitting idle in gear with foot on brake.
May need a 2400, 2600, 2800, 3000, or 3200 stall torque converter
My 600 HP 355 has a BIG cam and idles at 1000-1100 rpm in park and pulls down to 900-1000 rpm in gear with a 3500 stall converter
Also check your tune, timing and carb adjustments can play a major role in it stalling out when placed in gear
