Sigma SD14 DSLR lens question?
Hello, all.
I have been given a Sigma SD14 DSLR, body only. On craigslist I see numerous Sigma DSLR lenses for sale listed as Canon mount, Nikon mount, Sony mount, Minolta mount, etc, but none listed as having a Sigma mount. Do the Sigma bodies use a mount compatible with any of the major brands, or is the 'bare' lens, without the brand specific mount, what will fit my Sigma body?
Thanks,
Richard

It has a particular mount - Sigma SA.
And they aren't common.
This 28-105 is a useful lens - $70 on Amazon...

A 28-80 for $80...

Or a pair of brand new lenses, 24-70 and 70-300, at $400

The Sigma is a good camera, although as you might gather by the answers above, it is pretty far left of center from mainstream thought in camera design. When you say that RAW has "only" 2,400 resolution, I imagine that this figure is actually the LINES of resolution and has nothing to do with the megapixels. 2,400 is pretty darn good. Sigma has a weird way of making their megapixel claim due to the Foveon sensor design. They openly state that the real resolution is 4.67 MP, but multiply that by 3, because of the three layers in their sensor. This may or may not be a legitimate way to do it. They do publish some admirable images in their ads. Like some other cult cameras, you will find strong devotees (Has anybody seen Heinz lately???), but you will find it hard to move away from using their proprietery add-ons. If you are starting with an outstanding camera company like Nikon or Canon, you would never find this to be a handicap. If Sigma doesn't offer quite every lens that you think you would ever want, you will one day wish you had not moved so far into the niche of their way of thinking.
