How do you read a letter written in pencil, when the pencil has been erased? Bonus: What if there's writing?

I have a letter written by a loved one, and there was another letter written on this paper first; but, erased, & the other letter was written over it. How do I read the erased letter? Or, at least parts of it? This loved one has passed, so it's very important to me.

    More than likely, you can't.

Erasing pencil wears away the paper.

If the paper was then written over, the indentations would most likely obliterate any remaining compression of the paper left from the first pencil writing.

there'll be depressions left behind. I said a gadget on television that the offender authorities use to ascertain such depressions. They examine a note that were written on an higher piece of paper in a short stack which they did no longer have. one after the different, you may "dot map" the paper to seek for the trend of the pencil cloth, even at an rather faint residue element. The trend might want to correspond to the writing.
