Growing my hair out for the first time. Should I trim along the way?

I'll admit right off the bat that I have no clue what I am doing; any making fun of me is warranted haha.

Now that that is out of the way, for the first time in my life, I think I am going to grow my hair out longer than the  #2 buzz cut I've become accustomed to. Right now, my hair is about 2" long, but it looks ridiculous the way it's grown out. I'm not sure what it is, but it just doesn't look right. I'm guessing it's due to the fact that I last had a buzz. Anyway, I'm thinking of going for a Jim Halpert/Jay Cutler look.

Is it too early to go to a barber tomorrow for a trim? What should I ask for? Or do I just have to stick with looking like this for now?

Well Kurt Angle, I think you need to stick with the look you have for right now. I have Zac Efron hair (kinda like my avatar) but before I got hair like that I had the loser 4 year old straight across bangs thing goin on. While I was growing it out I had like an awkward stage where my hair looked so stupid until I got it to a good length. So just wait it out and I'm sure it'll look better soon.

Yes, a few trims along the way to keep it from looking goofy is what you are to do. The ends are looking thin if it is from a buzz and the weight distribution is off. Show the barber pictures of the style that you want. A picture speaks a thousand words. If you bring 5 or 6, you tell 5,000 to 6,000 words. The chances of getting the look you want is increased.

skater hair look up picture of skater boy hair on the internet (google it in google  pictures) and only if you get split ends and skater hair is the best hair out right now
