    Euclid - and it was one of his axioms

    (which, by the way, is not true in 3 space).

    Definitely Euclid although i was under the impression that he proved this by saying any two lines with an angle between them of less then 180 degrees must touch at some point, id draw a diagram and it would be much easier to explain.

    it was euclid...

    it is one of his postulates or the axioms...

    to know more go to wikipedia and type "euclidean geometry"
