What is a good pet for a person living alone?
My beloved Beagle died in April. I have only every had dogs. I want someone furry to love, but not sure what type of pet to get. I work lots of hours & live in a townhouse. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you!

if you like to cuddle and pet you animal then considering your situation here are a few pets that will meet your needs and you can meet theirs
-cats
-rabbits (can be litter box trained and let loose around the house when you are home)
-Guinea pigs
- rats (actually very clean and smart animals can be taught tricks)
- mice, hamsters, gerbils
- chinchilla soft furry and oh so cute but not always the friendliest of creatures they are very skittish (you would be too if for thousands of yrs people have been hunting you for your skin) but if they bond with you, you are set
other pets
small birds (parrots and othe Lg birds need a lot of bonding time)
fish (more fun to watch and relax to but not very cuddly)
NO ferret NO sugar glider they NEED too much time every day for a Single working person (3-4 hours out of cage play/bonding time EVERYDAY) they are great pets but require a lot of time energy and $$$

Like lots of other answers, I would recommend a cat because they are independent and are fine with being left alone. Dogs need a lot of attention, so that would not be a good choice. I would also recommend a grown cat, not a kitten, because kittens need to be trained to go in a litterbox, and might get into trouble, especially while you're at work.

In most cases an animal shelter or temporary caging facility would be used. I suppose some relatives who're willing to care for them would take them in. The second option of course won't apply if the person is antisocial and pushes away all relatives. Hope this helps :)

I agree with Alice - cats are much more independent and don't mind so much being alone. Plus, they love to snuggle.
Fish - surprisingly enough - are fun too! They get to know you and swim along the tank as you walk by. They remember that you feed them, and - in my experience - they are a great pet to have in combination with a cat, because cat's love to watch the fish!
Plus, fish tanks are soothing and create nice lighting in a home. Cichlids are fun because they get big (mine actually loved to be pet along the upper fin), but they are only good to have in few numbers, because they are somewhat aggressive! I recommend fresh water because it is easier. 20 gallon fresh water tank with one or two Cichlids - all you really have to do is a 60% water change every two weeks and you are pretty much good to go!

You should get a cat since you would be working alot or maybe a fish or ginee pig (lol i dont know how to spell it) or a bird. because those pets dont need much attention

A cat is perfect. They're low maintenance and extremely loving.
