As a tree surgeon I spend more time sorting out problems with Leylandii than anything else. They can,in the right conditions grow 3-4 feet a year to a height of 60 ft.Why would you want that 10 ft from your house? They drink loads of water which can cause the clay your house is sitting on to shrink in dryer weather. This in time can cause subsidence although it is rare.Although if it did happen I doubt your insurance would pay for the repairs. The main reason not to plant this type of tree is that it will cut out a lot of light from your house and maybe your neighbour's house. If you are determined to plant a Leylandii then for gods sake keep it trimmed.DO NOT let it get bigger than 8 ft.And keep the sides trimmed also as they get very wide too.But if I were you I would go to a nursery and buy a dwarf conifer. They are easier to control and look loads nicer.

Your plant is too very close to the your house. This plant grows very fast and will can damage you house. You should trimmed your plant once a year, because this plant grows 4 feet (1,2 meter) per year. Avoid growing in moist unstable soils - in windy areas the trees may blow over due to their rapid growth rate. Leyland cypress is a large tree unless constantly trimmed, do not plant too close to structures.
