Creating a System Image disk backup?

Trying to do this with brand new dvd r diskc, but get error, not sufficient space, and shows need more than 500 meg, yet the dvd is 4.7 gig with nothing on it, any ideas, thankyou..

Update:

These are new disk's tried more than 1 you know???

    It looks like your drive is seeing the disk as a CD-RW rather than a DVD-R. Try burning something else to a dvd to check.

    I know this is probably a silly question, but you are sure that you've got a DVD burner, not a CD-RW drive?

    In any case, you should be able to burn to a few CD-R as a last resort.

    A system image is generally much larger than 1 DvD. Probably you are using Vista/Windows7's inbuilt image creator. At the least, it will span over 8 gigs. you need multiple Dvds..if you could give some more info..it would be helpful

    i do no longer think of that its required. yet to be on the safer facet u would. abode windows seven equipment data itself choose diverse area. thatswhy its asking u.s. many dvds. i might advise u to make ur backups!!

    try a new disk, presumably one compatible with you DVD burner
