Deep Tissue Massage Technique?

For Therapists especially:

Do you always start a massage with the client face down? I'm asking because I generally take a while to relax at the beginning of my treatment. Since my problem areas are my C4/C5 area and my lower back, I was wondering if it might be a better idea if the next time I go for a massage to begin on my back?

Oddly enough, by the time I am on my back I am generally so relaxed that I can fall asleep, even during a deep tissue treatment.

Thanks in advance.

I was a liscenced massage therapist, and I catered to the client, whatever made them feel comfortable. I would go to get a massage, and ask them to work on my problem spots only, and they still wouldn't do it. If your paying for it make sure you get what you want!! Be clear and tell them, and if they don't do it how you feel comfortable, go someplace else!! If they are doing massage right, and you are seeing a chiropractor, it should not take you long to get well. The chiropractor puts your back into place, and the muscle spasms pull it back out. You massage to break down the spasms so the back will eventually stay in place and your body will stop making the spasms. You body tries to maintain homosteasis, which means once it gets a certain way, it tends to want to stay that way. You just have to get it to want to stay relaxed. Any sore spots, if you push on it with your finger, at the top back of your neck where your skullbones are, you need to push with your finger and without lifting your finger move it in small circles. And any spots on your upper back you can reach yourself. It all hooks together. If your buttock muscles hurt when you push on them , you do the same thing, only using your 4 fingers together. If your not sore, afterwards, you will not heal. If you are sore afterwards, rub some olive oil on the sore spots. I would not ever let anyone use baby oil which is mineral oil on me to do a massage. And make sure to drink a lot of water after a massage. Find someone who instintively knows where it hurts and hits all the right spots, not everyone has this gift, but if you can find someone who does, you will be healed. I got everybody better that I worked on, and I worked on auto accident cases, but I lost that job cuz we got them better so fast, and we had no new people coming in!!! The chiropractor did do the right thing, tho, he went into doing some other natural therapies too to extend his business, and wanted to keep getting the people well even though he lost the return business.
