Does study to you mean being spooned indoctrination from people you accept as "learned" or ...?

is it mostly independent references from all attitudes? Which do you actually practice? Was your answer really honest, or just what you want to pretend is true?

I learned Diogenes never found an "honest man," even the mirror, because we are all trained to deny reality and substitute what we want to pretend is true. That indoctrination begins from our parents and continues from our educators.

Update:

neniaf: I agree with you in general. That's why I always hold the mirror in one hand while I research with the other. I carefully watch particularly the beliefs I favor. Those are the most dangerous and most likely for me to distort. The next most likely for me to distort are the ones I hate.

Sorry, you are very wrong about those "hollowed halls." There, and text and reference book publishing, and journalism and broadcasting, is where the most bigoted propagandists scratch and claw to be. That's where they can be most effective spreading their bigotry far and wide.

Update 2:

Remember, the propaganda is not in what is promoted. It's in what is left out of the promotion. Filtering information is the better propagandist's tool.

I don't study, but what is the definition of indoctrination? The spread of beliefs. In school, ones belief is spread onto others. The information projected is taught as if it's 100% true.

Think Critically. Why should we believe what's in a book? Why should we believe someone just because they're a so-called authority-figure?

Teacher's went through the same indoctrination process. Regurgitating information on a piece of paper, resulting in them being a teacher.

Science, History, etc are Merely Beliefs. Beliefs that are spread in schooling. Indoctrination is the Spread of beliefs.

So now I hope you know my answer. I've never read in a science book that states "this is only a belief and has not been 100% proven".

To Nenia above: What is the difference between self-educating and believing everything you find on your favorite website, and believing everything someone that is "learned" tells you?

    Source(s): Common Sense.

I find that the most indoctrinated people are those who ignore those who are learned and substitute self-study. Why, because they usually only look for sources which already support the things they already believe to be true, and generally have little ability to discriminate between good and bad information. Information literacy in the internet age has become much more complex, and many fools just believe whatever they read on their favorite websites. That's why we have a high percentage of people who, in the face of a slew of information to the contrary, are still convinced that our President was born outside the U.S. and is a Muslim! I can assure you that it is not those who were well-educated by learned people who believe those things.

Even if each teacher you have "spooned indoctrination", what would save you from being indoctrinated in our society is that you learn from many teachers, each of whom have a different point of view. In totalitarian countries, teachers are carefully chosen for their propensity to parrot the government's point of view, because they know that this can be powerful. In the U.S., that isn't the case. I've had teachers over the years with a broad spectrum of viewpoints. It would be impossible to be turned into some kind of a robot this way, because I'm left with the task of reconciling everything I've heard.

Welcome to the Matrix Mr. Anderson.

Seriously, I can say from what I have self taught myself about the world around me; that what is true is more astonishing and unbelievable than anything you will ever be taught in school, and quite different and more complex and more fascinating and not quite like they lead you to believe.

Go and find things out for your self!
