Hong Kong people have once again demonstrated a high degree of self discipline and restraint in their numerous mournings of the victims and in showing their displease on how the Philippines handled the whole case.

This case just warns everyone NEVER choose a backward, corrupted place as a tourist spot, their nationals have all along been suppressed from getting any form of fair and equal treatments that would easily make them target innocent tourists as a way to get their voices heard. This is not the first time that foreigners taken as hostages and surely will not be the last in the Philippines.

"Countless apologies" is not enough for the innocent dead and their beloved ones. You really should press your govt to find out why the negotiation failed in the first place and what steps if any had your govt/police taken in order to minimize injuries. It's only by telling the world the whole truth to enable the Philippines stand back up and move forward.

The Philippines was once the richest and best country in Asia after WWII during the 50s and early 60s when all of Asia was badly destroyed by the Japanese. Sadly after half a century the Philippines is now not only the worst country in Asia but one of the worst in the world. Even the once war-torn state Vietnam and Cambodia are now enjoying high economic growth with a per capita GDP higher than the Philippines. Why is it so? Putting all the blames on your govt and president is partly wrong, afterall your country is democratic, that said what is elected in the govt by and large reflects the people's desires and expectations.

Philippines' biggest export is cheap labor, over 8 million Filippinas are now working in all sorts of cheap jobs in all over the world. Hong Kong alone absobs over 200,000 or close to 3% of the Filippino overseas workers, most of whom are college or professional graduates but are only making around HK$4,000 a month as domestic helpers. HK is said to be one of the best and safest haven for Filippino workers, many working in S E Asia and the Middle East often get tortured and raped. Why would you people allow your govt to come up with such a disgraceful, inhumane policy?

A few years ago, Singapore has sentenced a Filippino worker on death penalty, the Philippines almost put a halt on all diplomacy with Singapore, at least you wouldnt find this sort of thing happened in Hong Kong.

Aside from crying my eyes out and coming close to a nervous breakdown, I would try to gather the children to a corner, farthest from the shooter. I would also cooperate with everything Mendoza said and avoid doing anything that could irritate him. So no questions, no loud crying, no moving about excessively, etc. I also would've prayed that God would get us all out of there with as little harm done as possible.

I'm just speculating though. If I were actually placed in that kind of situation, who knows how long I'd have before losing my sanity? I might even be too stressed, too fearful or too desperate to do the things I mentioned above. I just hope that that kind of thing never has to happen to anyone else.

It's really a very difficult situation and there are only 2 things I could think of that perhaps could save your life- one is to pray for God's protection and to play dead.. if you have a chance, slip off the chair unnoticed and pretend dead on the floor. Oh my..

stay put and cooperate with your handler.

    it would make things easier,

if you try to be a hero and fight it out, trouble sparks just like what happened unless you are 100% sure you can neutralize your gunman.

when firing erupts , stay down , keep low and don't move from place to place unless necessary until firings are over. You might be shot by friendly fire mistaken as the suspect.

You never know how you will act in a violent situation until you are in it. I have seen so called brave men cry like babies when they believe they are going to die. I have seen some unlikely heroes too.

either i'd go karate kid or just beg the gunman to make it easy on me. just shoot the hell out of me before the so called SWAT tear gas or shoot at all of us inside.
