Why does Potassium iodide turn yellow in some reactions?

Well I'm in grade 9 and I'm doing a lab report. I am trying hard to explain everything but I have no clue about this.

When potassium iodide mixes with silver nitrate it turns into a yellow precipitate. Same with Lead nitrate

can someone please explain in simple terms why this happens?

You have made some insoluble salts by a process known as precipitation.

The first one you made was pale yellow silver iodide, and the second deep yellow lead iodide.
