How do I find a Certificate of Inspection (COI) on a vessel via the internet?

I'm in the understanding the a COI is public information. Is there a data base I can search to read the FULL COI of a vessel. I know a few data bases that tell you if a vessel is inspected, but no details of the vessels scope of operations.

If you are in the US, the CoI is done by thc coast guard. Try going thru them. If this is a commercial vessel, the CoI must be kept with the vessel's other paperwork and certifications.

And if the boat you are inquiring about is private/pleasure, and never used for any commercial enterprise, there is no CoI since pleasure boats do not require certification beyond the manufacturing of the boat.

Just because it's public information doesn't necessarily mean you will find it on the Internet. There are millions of government files that are stored away in file cabinets and warehouses around the country and you may never find them unless you know exactly where to look.
