Is the giant goldfish real or fake?
I'm sure some of you saw this story today on Yahoo as you were coming or going from Y!A.

So, is it real or fake. I want to say real. The way his hand is gripping it, the way the tail is hanging in the water -- it'd be hard to create these details in Photoshop. On the other hand, it doesn't look like the guy is exerting enough energy to hold the fish up. The story says the fish is 30 pounds... looks like that fish is more like 50. Also, where's the guy's fishing pole? Anyway, what do you all think? Real or fake? (And why?)

Definitely looks real to me, though I think he is holding the fish out from his body, especially with his left hand, which isn't obvious in the photo but may make the fish look bigger than it really is.

Yeah, it doesn't look like a 30 pounder. My guess would be around the 40-ish maybe. For being a Koi I would think it to be real. These fish do get pretty big but it takes years and years for them to reach this size. For me that would be the only valid point of this picture, it's a Koi. Had it been just a Goldfish then you'd know it was a false pic. I don't believe a plain Goldfish have it in them to reach those double digits. In the wild it would be an easy target even at 1-2 pounds. Very cool article though, interesting.~good luck catchin'

A 30 pound koi fish is a monster!
I think the picture is very authentic. Like you said, the person extended his arms out while holding the fish. This is a photography trick anglers love to use. The fish was away from the person's face and closer to the lens. The result: optical illusion.
PS: This trick could make a 5 pound bass look more like an 8 pounder rather easily. Tip: Remember to keep your fingers and palms out of sight or they will be used as a reference and "shrink" the fish. LOL

Big C , you have a good point and I agree with it. Problem is that we are not sure if it is offical, the places I fish we need at least a couple witnesses and/or a state wildlife offical to weigh and measure the fish, if these guidelines are met it would be offically recored in state records

Its a fake, i have held many large fish in my life & they do not sit nice and pretty for you like that. They are usually all wrinkled up where you are holding them at, this one is only slightly wrinkled.

I want to think it's real, because it'd be cool & he's so cute but I have my doubts.
